The new Italian Vogue cover

I must admit, I've fallen in love with the latest Italian Vogue cover editorial! Such elegance :) Which is what I adore!

This model has also gone into my top 5 favourite models - Christy Turlington :)

Once upon a time with Miss Sarah Moon

I've already mentioned this lady a million times, but I just adore her so much. I can't believe that there are no websites dedicated to this woman. There are also hardly any books. Nothing! I just don't understand, she's utterly amazing. I could sit and stare at her mysterious, whimsical and mystical photographs for hours and be led away to some magical place. Her images have a wonderful playfulness about them which make me smile :)

The fact that there are few I know that hardly know her... there's a little part of me inside that makes me want to keep her all to myself :) But I just can't! There's too much talent to be ignored.

So I've decided to collect everything I've found regarding Miss Sarah Moon mostly in content and post them on here so I don't lose them :)

QUOTES

♥"Very often I say to myself: I would like to make a photo where nothing happens. But in order to eliminate, there has to be something to begin with. For nothing to happen, something has to happen first." Sarah Moon

♥"To be more creative is to get closer to childhood." S. M. << my favourite quote
♥"I give myself a literary frame, I tell a story." S.M.
♥"I only witness my fantasies, my way of seeing beauty in women" S.M.
♥"I spend my time eliminating things, with the hope that there will be something left that will surprise me, that will make me forget that I am in a studio, in front of a model that I have booked, on a set on which I have spent hours fussing, with lights that it has taken a whole day to set up." S.M.

SOME ANALYSIS

♥"Looking into Sarah Moon’s extraordinary photographs is comparable to looking through a two-way mirror. The mirror surface becomes the print and the viewer has the privilege of standing on the ’other-side’ looking through the image at the same time. The living creatures are rendered so ’still’ and conversely the inanimate objects, such as the dolls, become human and expressive with their own inimitable character, ultimately mirroring each other." Michael Hoppen Gallery

♥"The dream world is quintessential to her work; her images lead us into a world bewitched. When men appear, her pictures move towards a more disturbing surrealism and a dangerous mystery is inferred. These are photographs in which the bizarre and unusual confront ordinary reality." Michael Hoppen Gallery

ASSORTED INTERESTING FINDINGS

♥Her work was mostly achieved using capricious techniques like sepia coloring on matte paper, toned silver gelatin printing, solarization, monochrome Polaroid pack, etc.

♥She was a former model and filmmaker

♥The sometimes out-of-focus images aren't on purpose, they are because she never wore her glasses

♥She despised colour but was forced to use it due to the death of b&w film. Yet she used it in her own way, decreasing the saturation or dramatically increasing it in order to create blinding colours. She had to do things her way and I don't think there's anyone who could replicate that grainy, moody yet playful and fantastic style she created.
ARTICLES & INTERVIEWS
♥A really beautiful and insightful interview by fashion photographer Frank Horvat on Sarah Moon in Paris 1986

♥Little Red Riding Hood book with pictures by Sarah Moon

♥Her 'Circus' book is amazing.

♥ Read 'Coincidences', guarantee you will see nothing like anything you've seen before in this book.
So after my late night research tonight I have discovered the reason why the work and biography of Sarah Moon remains very reserved. She was apparently a very private lady who shied away from the media. She loathed discussing her work because it was so private and personal to her, according to people in the past who have worked with her.

To view more of her work; only way to do so is by googling or purchasing the expensive books! :(

Late night boredom

Yes it's a friday night and I'm staying in. Why? Because i'm bloody boring. So much is going on at the moment. I'm moving to Australia, Brisbane in 3 and a half weeks! It's so stressful. I have so much to organise, so much to do before I leave.

Well anyway, enough about that. It's doing my head in even thinking about it.
On a lighter note, I have a new shoot coming up soon! I've started testing for Sapphire's modelling agency. Quite excited :)

My main inspiration for this shoot is occuring from Cyndi Lauper's (or as my mum calls her "Cyndi Loooopy") 'True Colours' video. It's amazing, i've always had a fascination with it. Here's some snap shots:

I love this video for two reasons; the simplicity & the softness. I find it quite beautiful really... or I'm just generally cheesy. I accept it!

So yeah, this is my starting point :)

Studio photography

I used to despise it. But now, i've learnt the fascination of studio photography! It's... not as bland and uncreative as I thought it would be. I had a negative attitude towards the idea of it, but I've definitely warmed up to the idea and will do more studio photography in the future!

Apart from the fact that some poor man DIED on the train I was on, and even worse, my CAMERA BROKE, yes MY CAMERA BROKE ON THE DAY OF MY SHOOT... it went consideringly well.

So I used a different camera, the canon 20D, thanks to Mr. Studio Man! The camera was definitely much easier to use than my olympus. Bye bye Olympus! It's time to get a new camera! I have a good excuse now. Although I won't be doing any shoots for a a couple of months now :'(

Anyway, the shoot was for LittleFille.com, a headband + accessory boutique. Mari's headbands are amazing, so pretty and inspiring - and most of all, beautiful behind the camera. We had a lovely team, couldn't ask for anything better :)

My style muse(s)

Zooey Deschanel I love Zooey's classy, cute buttoned-up vintage look. LOVE this lady.
Miss Katy Perry
Who doesn't love this girl? She makes me like POP. I love her modern day pin up retro style and her courage! She's so yummy!
Daisy!
Ah, she's really something. Her style is so effortless. She can make a posh evening dress fun and quirky by just pulling a cheeky face! LOVE her.

Jameela Jamil
This girl replaced Alexa Chung, and I think it's for the better! Her style is gorgeous, glamorous and quirky at the same time.

Take me back to the 1950s :( Anyone?

How beautiful are these images? Every aspect utterly perfect! And what I also adore about these photographs is that the models aren't STICK THIN. I think it's ridiculous how skinny models HAVE to be in our day and age. It's not healthy, therefore, how in hell can it be considered as beautiful? I don't think it's right to portray the perfect woman as someone so skinny and unhealthy. How is this a good influence on young girls?

So now I ask you.... will you please take me back to the 1950s when fashion photography was so much more beautiful, natural and NOT fake. And the glamour photography looked like this ^ and not some Barbie Doll porn.

Finding a job at all photography-related has reached the point of no return.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND WORK. Why did I choose this industry? Because it's amazing blah blah blah. Sorry, I am getting a little stressy these days because I am indeed very bored. So, I apoligise for any future stress and also for the fact that I haven't posted in ages. So, here I go.

FIND ME A JOB. See what I've done there? I've made it all pretty and pink just for you.

But seriously, anything will do at this point. What I want to do is work with a small fashion company, like a newly started fashion boutique, photographing their beautiful collections. I'd love to do that :) I'm seriously opting for jumping on a plane and going anywhere but this country at the moment because it is TOO DEMANDING FOR MY LITTLE BRAIN.

A more interesting post than before :)

THE LITTLE PRINCESS IS THE BEST FILM IN THE WORLD.

I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it!

But seriously, what an amazing film. Oh how I want to be a kid again, I loathe being officially an adult. I mean, why can't we all be princesses and dance around in pretty dresses and eat yummy food? Well, not such a bad idea actually, it doesn't sound too different from what I am like now :) This film gives me an idea for a photo shoot. Oh how many ideas to I have and never pursue them! No, this time I will. In Australia, yeah :) Yes that's right, I am officially moving to Australia for 6 whole months. Go me!

Anyway, back to the subject. I love this film because it is so magical yet challenges realism and it makes little girls feel like princesses :) Which I did, even though I was a tree-climbing and frog-collecting tom boy as a kid. It's a blissful children's fantasy which is so sweet and cute that I just want to eat it. My favourite quote from the film is said by Sara's father when he states ""You are my little princess," N'aw.

Death due to exams

I have my last exam tomorrow. TOMORROW. And yes, I shouldn't be writing this... I should be revising. But no, not me. I'm too easily distracted. I'm constantly looking for an excuse to not revise, my favourite one is "oh look I'm hungry, let's go and eat", eating turns into watching t.v, t.v leads to watching MORE t.v and then 3 hours later, I'm still NOT revising.

Ah well? Who needs English anyway? I DO. I have all these stupid little papers spread around my room which I just look at, dazed. I probably spend more time dazing out of the window than actually sitting down to revise. It's bad. I need to stop day dreaming, that's what! I am very aware that this is boring. Apologies :)

Blanche DuBois

I adore Blanche DuBois, the main character from Tennessee William' A Street Car Named Desire. I've been studying this play all year, and she just fascinated me. Her character is so beautiful, inside and out. The way she cannot replace fantasy with reality; she hides away from the truth, escaped from it to avoid pain. I love how she dresses up in all sorts of clothes, attempting to re-boost her Southern Belle past. She's labelled as the 'fading Southern Belle'. Last year they were reshowing the play with Rachel Weisz playing the part of Blanche. Me and my friend travelled all the way to the theatre in London to see it, but to our luck, there were no more tickets! I was so annoyed because Rachel Weisz is my favourite actress! She's so beautiful and she's an amazing actress, the parts she plays are always unexpected, which is what I love. Take The Mummy for instance, who would have thought she'd be playing Evelyn? Such an awful film, but I loved it :)
Yes, as you can see I have this undoubted love for films. I must watch at least one film a day. I love how films enable you to escape reality! Just like Blanche :) Yes, I know I am a little cheesy!

Pleasantville

I just watched this film for the first time since I was seven years old. It is such a good film, well, okay it is a bit 'cheesy' as it were, but who doesn't enjoy these films? I loved it. It's basically about a geeky brother and... not so geeky sister who end up 'falling' through the tv screen into the popular old tv programme called 'Pleaseantville', where everything is, well, pleasant. Everything is also completely colour blind, there is no danger (no fire, no murders etc), it's just, pleasant. It's also very stereotypical; the husband comes home from work at six pm everynight, walks through the door, hangs his coat and puts his briefcase down and shouts, "hunnie, I'm home!", and dinner is on the plate and the family wait for the father to sit down. It's so silly but I love it. Anyway, this brother and sister turn into the main characters of Bud and Marie-Sue. Jennifer, who has turned into 'Marie-Sue becomes a little rebellious since she does NOT want to be in this silly little town. So, she teaches her friends and her 'boyfriend' how to get jiggy with it and changes the whole of Pleasantville, ahh! And then they all turn colour and live happily every after, blah blah blah. Watch it :)

Anyway, the point of this post is because there is something I also adored about this film, and that was the fashion. Seriously, the fashion. The cute little sweaters; collars, long retro skirts with long socks and sensible shoes, so adorable.

Look at this outfit, inspired by the film. Enjoy.

I'm thinking about doing a shoot based on this aaamazing movie. Hmm.

Vote for me!!

Please vote for me on this contest! I will be much appreciated :)

Ballad of... magazine

I should have posted about this magazine before because it is just amazing what they are doing. They basically showcase amazing aspiring artist's work in their magazine to show everyone how amazingly talented people are and help these artists with their difficult journeys into the challenging business. I am definitely going to do a shoot for this magazine after my exams. They give you a theme to work with and you basically just send in your work. I sent clips of my work to them a while ago (at the wrong time unfortunately) but they liked my work so they featured me on their feature page. So, not only are they amazing, but they are also very nice!

A little inspiration

These are some photographs I have collected over the past year which have inspired me, and I think are amazing. As for where I collected them and which artists they belong to, I haven't a clue, sorry! Going to post them on here to save memory on my little laptop! Enjoy. x
