Need a new camera

It's about time I need a new camera. I've been surviving on a small slr i've had for about 3 years now. I bought it second hand off a fashion photographer friend, it was her first camera. Trouble is, I have absolutely no money. It's my 18th birthday very soon so I've asked my parents to buy me a new camera :) Didn't go down too well. So, I need to save up and get one myself! (with some kind donations from parents, of course). Another problem is that I have no idea where to start! What brand should I get?! I'm aware of this Canon vs Nikon debate but everyone tells me the Canon is better... so should I get a Canon? If so, which one!? It's so difficult getting a new camera and so expensive. Unfortunately I may have to go secondhand due to my limited number of pennies!

Vintage series

This is a story I did a while ago. I love the dreamy effect I created (using the old vaseline technique). I'm pretty happy with these images and again, I used one of my best friends as the model so I felt so comfortable (basically I could tell her off and get her to do anything!). I was inspired by Sarah Moon to do this shoot. As I said before, she is one of my favourite photographers. Obviously my series are NO WHERE NEAR as amazing as hers.

Title: Decolorizing elegance

Woodland shoot

This is a shoot I did the other day with my best friends! We walked to the woods with a picnic basket, Chloe was wearing a wedding dress and Siani was wearing a tea-stained victorian dress. We looked silly but got some really cool photographs out of it! I always work better with people I know quite well and actually have a sense of humour. I had a shoot once where the model was so rude! She was about 10 years elder than me and I felt so intimidated by her! I don't think anyone should be allowed to make someone feel that way, even if they are shy and nervous! I realise to be a successful fashion photographer you need to be confident: this is something I am really working on right now!

Oh how alluring!

Romeo, Romeo!

Mrs. Hatter had eaten too many cakes.

Flower series

This is a series I was hoping to be submitted to a magazine, but, obviously didn't :(
It was a fun shoot though, we all talked too much and ended up doing most of the shoot in the dark! Tut tut.

Introduction

Thought I'd post a little introduction as to who I am etc. etc. My names Natasha Marshall, I'm 17 and want to be a professional fashion photographer. I thought I'd start a blog to share the influences I collect from, well, everywhere! (otherwise I would most definitely lose them or completely forget, knowing me!)

To start off, I have written my main influences down...

*Tim Walker is my favourite photographer! I love everything about his work; the mystical effects, the fairy tale themes, the dramatic clothes, the amazing locations, the impressive lighting, the models, the concepts, it goes on and on. I would absolutely love to meet that man! If anyone knows his number, gimme!

*Sarah Moon is my second favourite photographer because I love how elegant, beautiful and dreamy her photographs are. Whenever I look at one of her images it's like looking into someones dream. I'm also a big fan of the vintage concept which is why I love the style of her photos.

*Music is an obvious influence. I'm a big fan of Florence & the machine, the oldie bands obviously (Beatles, Smiths), The Cure, oh it goes on. Most recently I love Lisa Mitchell, an Australian singer who isn't very well known. Her music is so... cute.

*Art is another obvious one, since it's everywhere! My uncle always buys vintage art and unique paintings for me sometimes and it really gives me some amazing ideas.

*My childhood is another. I had a weird childhood; good times and bad times. I love how simple childhood is, I always believed in fairy tales! I was a sucker for them. Especially Sleeping Beauty!

*Nature is another influence. I grew up in Australia where there is so much nature everywhere around you and so there's many amazing locations. I now live in Kent where I am still surrounded by beautiful locations. This is mainly why I completely prefer location shoots.

*People are a major influence for me too. Someone's mind and even one word a person speaks can spark an idea. I love unconventional beauty.

*There's so many other artists which I LOVE but there's just, well, way too many to list!
